Filmmaker Ross McElwee has spent forty years recording himself and his family. His son Adrian aspires to a more commercial career and welcomes the news that a Hollywood producer wants to remake his father’s seminal 1985 documentary Sherman’s March (also opening at the JBFC on July 17). But as the adaptation stalls and Adrian slips into addiction, McElwee ruminates on what his camera captured and what remained hauntingly out of frame.
