The scintillating feature debut of Mary Harron (American Psycho) and one of the most controversial independent films of the 1990s, I Shot Andy Warhol stars an electric Lili Taylor as Valerie Solanas, a militant feminist whose attempted murder of Andy Warhol brought instant fame to her radically anti-male SCUM Manifesto. Dropping out of grad school in the mid sixties, the brilliant yet volatile Solanas survived in New York City as a destitute artist, sex worker, and panhandler, soon striking up a friendship with Warhol superstar Candy Darling that brought her briefly into the orbit of the world’s premier pop artist. With vivid, hallucinatory attention to historical detail, Harron captures the explosive cross-pollination of New York’s political and artistic countercultures as well as the creativity, snobbery, and decadence at the heart of the legendary Factory. Anchored by pitch-perfect performances—and featuring a blistering score by John Cale as well as covers of sixties hits by some of the nineties’ most iconic bands (R.E.M., Wilco)—I Shot Andy Warhol is an incisive portrait of a rebel without an outlet and the soon-to-be-lost generation she came to define.

- One of the most distinctive voices of the independent film movement of the last twenty-five years, Mary Harron made her debut as a feature-film writer/director in 1996 with I Shot Andy Warhol. Her films include the once notorious, now revered American Psycho starring Christian Bale in 2000, The Notorious Bettie Page in 2006, cult horror film The Moth Diaries in 2011, and Charlie Says, starring Matt Smith as Charles Manson, in 2019. Mary has directed episodes of many acclaimed television series including Oz, The L Word, Six Feet Under, Big Love, and The Following, as well as the TV movie Anna Nicole. In 2017 she directed all six episodes of the multiple-award-winning Netflix series Alias Grace, adapted by Sarah Polley from the novel by Margaret Atwood. Mary’s latest film, released in 2022, was DaliLand about the last years of Salvador Dali starring Ben Kingsley, Barbara Sukowa, and Chris Briney. Her next film, The Highway That Eats People, is due to shoot in the fall of 2026.
- Lili Taylor is a three-time Emmy nominee who will next be seen in The Bell Jar for director Sarah Polley, Hulu’s Prison Break reboot, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Lili can currently be seen in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again. Lili starred in Brian Tetsuro’s Anima alongside Sydney Chandler and Takehiro Hira, which premiered at this year’s SXSW festival. She can also be seen starring in Amazon’s mystery drama Outer Range. In the literary space, Lili’s debut novel entitled Turning to Birds: The Power and Beauty of Noticing was released this past spring by Penguin Random House and was listed by New Yorker Magazine and Library Journal as a Best Book of the Year, and was a finalist for the Gotham Book Prize. Turning to Birds is a love letter to birding and the art of seeking peace in unexpected places. In the birding world, Lili is a board member of the National Audubon Society, the American Birding Association, and the New York City Bird Alliance.
