Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
From two-time Palme d’Or winner Cristian Mungiu, a Norwegian woman (Renate Reinsve; Sentimental Value) and her devout Romanian husband (Sebastian Stan; A Different Man) relocate with their five children to a remote, close-knit, coastal town. Their teenage children form a fast bond with a neighboring family as unease begins to simmer around their rigid beliefs. When allegations of abuse emerge, they are forced to confront a system of judgment that blurs the line between concern and prejudice.
Watch Cristian Mungiu’s previous Palme d’Or winning film 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days at the JBFC on October 14.
Tickets: $11 (members), $16 (nonmembers)
“A mysterious and tragic examination of the boundaries of acceptable behavior (and caregiving) in modern liberal society.”
— Nick Schager, The Daily Beast
“Writer-director Cristian Mungiu has made a slow-burn provocation that knows exactly which buttons it is pressing – yet which also grapples with the thorny issues it raises...with an unflinching moral seriousness.”
— Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK)
