Magnolia Pictures @ 20

June 10–16, 2022

From Associate Director of Film Programming, Andrew Jupin:

For two decades, Magnolia Pictures has continuously released top-tier narratives and documentaries from around the world, and the JBFC has worked alongside them all the while to present titles from their annual slate of films—a lineup that seems to grow more impressive and adventurous with each passing year—to our filmgoing community. Whether you notice distributor logos at the beginning of a film or not, I guarantee you’ve seen several Magnolia Pictures titles here at the JBFC.

I’m so thrilled we are able to present this selection of films from Magnolia’s ouput over the last twenty years—an admittedly small fraction of their massive catalog of sensational work—and I’m delighted to have this series run right before we open Magnolia’s next great doc, the fabulous Bitterbrush, which comes from 2018 JBFC Artist-in-Residence Emelie Mahdavian and opens June 24.

But for now, I strongly encourage you to check out as many of these films as you can; it’s a solid mix of powerful, striking documentaries and groundbreaking, knock-out narratives. You can’t go wrong with anything in this lineup.
