This is a post by JBFC Marketing Intern Stacy Zakalik
Are you tired of always having to listen to the Best Picture talk? Usually, when I watch the Academy Awards ceremony, Best Picture is all I know, but watching the Oscars every year can be more fun if you’ve seen all the films. It isn’t always easy, however, to see those little-know Oscar nominees.
Now, you’re in luck! You’ll finally be able to see some films that are a big part of the Oscars but are seldom talked about, the Oscar Nominated Shorts. Tickets for all the Oscar Nominated Shorts are on sale now, and check the schedule below to see when we’re screening the shorts you want to see!
On February 6, 10 and 12 we are screening the Oscar Nominated Live Action shorts:
On February 7, 9, and 12, we screen are screening the Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts:

- Feast
- The Bigger Picture
- A Single Life

- In addition, four animated shorts will be shown, including one from Bill Plympton. These films are suitable for children ages 8Â and up.
Lastly, the Oscar Nominated Documentary Shorts are screening in two different programs, Docs A and Docs B on February 8, 11, and 12. Films screened include:
And don’t forget that one week before the February 22 Academy Award ceremony, on Sunday, February 15 at 5:00 pm, the film The Oscar will be shown at the Burns, followed by a Q&A with host Jonathan Demme, part of his series “Rarely Seen Cinema.” In addition to The Oscar, we are hosting our annual Oscar Talk, an exciting evening focusing on the Oscar race and what to expect, on Tuesday February 17 at 7:30 pm with Oscarologist Mark Harris and Janet Maslin.
Last, but certainly not least, don’t forget to participate in the third annual Oscar ballot to win a $200 JBFC gift card and a signed copy of Anjelica Huston’s autobiography Watch Me. The winner will be announced and contacted via on February 23.
So, if you’re ready for some Oscar fun, participate in any of these Academy Award-related activities. Good luck and get voting!
