NT LIVE…SUMMER 2015
This is a post by JBFC Volunteer Dotty Battel
What should everyman, and woman, not miss? Our two “World Stage on Screen“ summer programs, that’s what!
NT Live’s Everyman will be shown in an HD simulcast Thursday, July 16 at 2:00.  A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has created a striking contemporary version of this morality play, directed by Rufus Norris, the National Theatre’s new director, and starring Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) as Everyman (or “Ev†as his friends called him). “Spectacular, straightforward and, alright, a little bit sentimental, it’s impossible not to like.†(Variety)  Watch the video below to hear Ejiofer, Duffy, and Norris talk about adapting the play for today. It’s fascinating!

Next up on Thursday July 16 at 2:00 is the ROH screening of Rossini’s mammoth (it lasts about 4 1/2 hours!) final opera Guillaume Tell, about the freedom-fighting, sharp-shooting archer William Tell. Brimming with exceptional music (including the triumphant opening music, recognized around the world as the theme of The Lone Ranger) this opulent work shows off Rossini at the peak of his powers. Watch the following video of the conductor Damiano Michieletto discussing the opera, which is says struck him “as if by a thunderboltâ€.
