JBFC Mixtapes, Vol. 23: Barbie's Block Party

JBFC Mixtapes is an initiative from the Burns to highlight the music—from soundtracks to scores—that makes the cinematic experience so special. Vol. 23 comes to us from JBFC Customer Service Manager Tara Bongiorno, who put together her favorite Barbie-tastic bops for Barbie’s Block Party, which took place Saturday, July 22 at the JBFC Media Arts Lab. Couldn’t join us for the event in person? Keep the party going with this playlist!

Tara writes: “For Barbie’s Block Party, I wanted to pick songs that would get all the Barbies & Kens in a party mood. Since it’s summer—and Barbie loves the beach!—I opted for songs with a summery, beachy feel, including my favorite reggae. I made sure to include a number of woman-power anthems, as well as fashion songs like “Diamonds,” “Raspberry Beret,” and “Material Girl,” since we all know Barbie loves to accessorize. I obviously had to include “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as my final pick, but went with Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s rendition to give it a Hawaiian beach vibe. Last but not least, I added in Robyn’s “Cobrastyle” for no other reason than Charli XCX’s “Speed Drive” (from the Barbie soundtrack) is totally the same song, and I’m not sure if Robyn got any credit!”
