In Nicolas Roeg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book “The Witches,” Helga (Mai Zetterling) and her young grandson Luke (Jasen Fisher) accidentally stumble upon a witch’s convention (hiding in plain sight as “The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children”) led by the unashamedly wicked Grand High Witch (a scene-stealing Anjelica Huston). When Luke discovers their evil plan to turn children into mice, he falls victim to the spell himself. In his new state, he dedicates himself to stopping the Witches from harming anyone else. Featuring delightfully creepy and unforgettable special effects by executive producer Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
