Short Cuts

Presented on 35mm

Based on the stories of Raymond Carver, Robert Altman’s Short Cuts centers on a medley of loosely connected characters who cross paths over the course of the film. With Carver’s Pacific Northwest setting changed to Los Angeles County, the film features a formidable ensemble of actors including Lily Tomlin, Jack Lemmon, Julianne Moore, Andie MacDowell, Matthew Modine, Lyle Lovett, and Tim Robbins.

"Exploding Raymond Carver's spare stories and minimally drawn characters onto the screen with startling imagination, Robert Altman has made his most complex and full-bodied human comedy since Nashville."
Todd McCarthy, Variety
"Los Angeles always seems to be waiting for something. Permanence seems out of reach; some great apocalyptic event is on the horizon, and people view the future tentatively. Robert Altman's Short Cuts captures that uneasiness perfectly."
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

This film is part of the Altman at 100 series.
