Practical Magic with Griffin Dunne

Q&A with director Griffin Dunne, moderated by JBFC Board President Janet Maslin

Join us for an evening with actor and director Griffin Dunne, including a screening of Practical Magic and a chance to hear from Griffin about his new memoir, The Friday Afternoon Club. His story of growing up among larger-than-life characters in Hollywood and Manhattan finds wicked humor and glimmers of light in even the most painful of circumstances.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman sparkle in the wry, romantic tale of two sisters who discover the gift of Practical Magic.

In a small, contemporary New England town, for two sisters from a family of witches, falling in love is the trickiest spell of all. They struggle to use their gift for magically guiding fate to overcome their family curse: The men they fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death!

Copies of The Friday Afternoon Club will be available for purchase courtesy of The Village Bookstore. Griffin will sign books after the screening.

Presented on 35mm

"Dunne is committed, thank good-ness, unapologetic for even the most fluttery sentiment or spookiest chill, enjoying the swellness of the very idea almost as much as any fanciful girl."
Hazel-Dawn Dumpert, L.A. Weekly
