In this adaptation of the novel by Steven King, acclaimed novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is rescued by former nurse Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates—in an Academy Award winning performance) after crashing his car during a snowstorm. When Wilkes, who claims to be Sheldon’s biggest fan, discovers his plan to kill off her favorite character in his popular book series, her fandom takes a dark turn as she holds Sheldon captive in her remote Colorado home and attempts to force him to write her favorite character back to life.

"Misery, Rob Reiner's taut and troubling adaption of the Stephen King novel, is a black comedy to end all black comedies."
"The movie has a real kick to it. As Paul and Annie attempt to outsmart each other, Misery gets nastier and nastier. It turns into a psychotic cat-and-mouse game, and there are some genuine shocks."
This film is part of the Remembering Rob Reiner series.
