In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50

Introduction by WFUV DJ Darren DeVivo

Exploring the long and storied history of the progressive rock group King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King: King Crimson at 50 takes a lighthearted view of a sometimes-contentious band hellbent on pushing its musical boundaries. Toby Amies’ darkly comic documentary follows ringleader and longest surviving member Robert Fripp and a rotating merry band of musicians – both past and present – on tour and down memory lane for a celebration of the group’s ever-evolving sound.

“There’s nothing sentimental about this documentary, which looks at people with the clear, unflinching gaze of a portraitist.”
Leslie Felperin, The Guardian
In the Court of the Crimson King is really about as good as rock documentaries get, in capturing the essence of a group of musicians and how they relate to each other, the world and a muse whose demands result in literal and figurative calluses.”
Chris Willman, Variety

This film is part of the Sounds of Summer series.
