Frontier

During World War II, many French Jews sought to escape the Nazi occupation through the treacherous crossing of the Pyrenees into Spain. The path was officially blocked by Francisco Franco’s regime. Frontier is a gripping historical drama about a group of Spaniards, led by Manuel, a civil servant who fought against Franco’s side, and Juliana, a fellow villager, who come to the aid of the refugees, at great personal risk, and in the shadows of the recent Spanish Civil War. Made by Judith Colell, a leading force in Catalan cinema as director, writer, and producer, Frontier was exquisitely photographed on 35mm film, to atmospherically evoke the period and draw us into this tense drama.

"Stunning cinematography, meticulous staging, and a strong cast."
Juan Pando, Fotogramas
