Annie (1982)

In New York City during the Great Depression, a plucky, red-haired girl named Annie (Aileen Quinn) is the voice of hope for her fellow orphans who live under the supervision of the strict and mean Miss Hannigan (comedy legend Carol Burnett). One day, the dingy orphanage is visited by the sophisticated Grace Farrell (Ann Reinking, All That Jazz), personal secretary to politician Oliver Warbucks (Albert Finney, Corpse Bride). In order to improve his public image, Grace brings Annie to the Warbucks estate for a weeklong visit. Annie quickly wins the hearts of servants and politicians alike, eventually even bringing her song of hope, “Tomorrow,” to President Roosevelt in Washington! A family favorite since its release over four decades ago, Annie is a Hollywood musical classic.

"Aileen Quinn makes a perfect Annie, recalling Shirley Temple with her room-lighting smile and perky manner."
Bob Thomas, Associated Press
"What makes Annie so winning is that, while it could have easily been just another cutesy-poo Hollywood musical, it happens to be as gritty, genial and boisterous as little Annie herself."
Kathleen Carroll, New York Daily News
