“Director Nicolo Donato…masterfully ratchets up the tension, heightening the suspense until the very last frame.” (Film Society of Lincoln Center)
In 1943 Copenhagen, celebrated jazz guitarist Arne Itkin (David Dencik, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) seems untouchable by war and its hardships, as the Danish government opts for a complicit relationship with Nazi Germany. Initially, he’s skeptical when his wife, Miriam (Danica Curcic), shares the rumors she’s heard about the round-up and deportation of Danish Jews. But everything changes when an overnight raid forces the couple to take their five-year-old son and suddenly flee, never looking back. They land in a small coastal fishing village, awaiting safe passage to Sweden and putting their fate in the hands of strangers whose allegiance and motives are not always clear.
