A Three Course Meal: Three Food Films

Introduction from filmmakers on March 29

Triple Feature: Orna and Ella, Double Happiness, Egg Cream

A cinematic feast about the joys and importance of food, this program includes the film equivalent of an appetizer, a beverage, and an entree. When the renowned Tel Aviv restaurant Orna and Ella closed after being run by two women for 26 years, the acclaimed documentary filmmaker Tomer Heymann (Paper Dolls, Mr. Gaga, Ilana Goor: Woman Against the Wind) who worked there for six years, made this wonderfully candid and poignant and yes, irresistibly mouthwatering documentary. The long-standing tradition of Jews going to Chinese restaurants on Christmas is at the core of Shari Albert’s touching and surprising romantic drama Double Happiness. And Egg Cream, whose filmmakers include a father (Peter Miller) and daughter (Nora Claire Miller), is packed with history, personal stories, and a celebration of the enduring fountain treat–one of the few affordable pleasures available to tenement dwellers in the early 20th century.

Enjoy this selection of savory films alongside a classic New York-Style Egg Cream, available for purchase at the Take 3 Wine Bar & Café (Thurs-Sun) during this year’s Jewish Film Festival.
