David Cunio was abducted from Nir Oz on October 7, 2023, and held captive by Hamas for more than two years. Ten years earlier, David starred with his twin brother Eitan in Tom Shoval’s powerful Israeli film Youth, a drama about regional violence and the bond between brothers that, in an incredible twist of fate, revolved around an abduction. By intercutting between the present-day story and behind-the-scenes footage and audition tapes from the earlier film, A Letter to David breaks the boundaries between art and life to create an intimate, deeply moving film that immerses us in a personal perspective on the October 7 tragedy and the long period of grief, hope, and uncertainty that followed.
